Petr Petrovich Semenov-Tyan-Shansky (1827-1914)-Russian geographer, botanist, statistician, economist, statesman and public figure. He received a postscript to his last name "Tian-Shan" when he visited the Tian-Shan Mountains. In 1856-1857, he explored the Tien Shan, which was previously inaccessible to Europeans, and for the first time drew up a scheme of orography and high-altitude zoning of the mountain system. The initiator of a number of expeditions to Central Asia and Kyrgyzstan as a whole. He proved the absence of active volcanoes in the Tien Shan, the existence of which was confirmed by the authority of Humboldt. This refutation of Humboldt's theory was of great importance not only for the correct understanding of the geology of the entire Asian continent, but also for the correct understanding of the term volcanism.

A monument to Petr Petrovich Semenov-Tyan-Shansky was erected in Balykchy in 1984. Installed at the entrance to Balykchy. It is a town of Issyk-Kul region in Kyrgyzstan. We will drive through these places in tours along Issyk-Kul lake.
